In order to meet the new Dropbox Desktop application requirements, we converted the scratch filesystem on the Springdale Linux computers from xfs to ext4. For those users using Springdale Linux, your home directory is located on a network file system, which is now unsupported by Dropbox. Many of the desktop computer systems deployed throughout the School of Mathematics have Springdale Linux installed on them, which is a Red Hat Enterprise Linux clone. Further, the Dropbox Desktop application for Linux-based computer systems only supports the ext4 file system. The application is no longer supported for Ubuntu 13.10 and below, and Fedora 20 and below. The system requirements for the Dropbox Desktop application have changed since October 2018.
